About Me

We are "The Yager Family", Doug, Joanne, Lauren, Nolan and our sweet, loving, blue roan English Cocker, Macy, Cockerlea's Best Kept Secret. We live in the country on our farm. Our last dog, Shadow, a cocker beagle mix, got cancer and died. We were very attached to her, so it was a huge decision to get another dog that would be as loving and good as Shad. The kid's never had a puppy and my husband felt they needed the experience and I felt the whole thing could be a good tool in teaching pet ownership and responsibility. I believe it is not just a want to have a pet, but a family decision, as they take many hours and years of your life, so I wanted them to realize this before you own an animal. We always rescued dogs no one else wanted, which we were always glad to do, but they always came with a health issue, or personality problems that were deep inbedded in them and hard to break. Shadow had severe separation anxiety, which was very hard as we were her 5th and final home. No wonder she had this. We always loved her and worked around it. But when it came to a puppy, I was going to do my homework. No puppy mills for us. I found Cockerlea's site and have never regretted a minute of it. Bred for health and temperment is true!! Long story short, The Guyatt Family and their "family of English Cockers" have fast become our great friends. We enjoy visiting for grooming and the interaction for Macy with the other dogs, one of which is Poppy, her litter mate and her mom, Sydney. In our profile picture, Lauren our daughter, is holding Macy and Nolan, our son, is holding Poppy. Macy has been the easiest dog to train and love. She has the most gentle and sweet personality, but also is protective when needed. She is smart and trained with ease and I credit Rick and Sharron for their hands on, home raised way of bringing up these pups for us to enjoy.  We took training Macy seriously and everyone took their turn helping out when home. It was a "family effort". The breed is smart and love to please. Rick and Sharron work with the puppies before you get them and it shows. My daughter is already thinking of getting another one, so as to train it with Macy, and then she can take it with her when she marries. If you are thinking of getting an English Cocker Spaniel, Rick and Sharron are the one's to talk to with all their love, knowledge and respect of this breed. They are there for you before, during and after you get your pup. They put alot of love and time in their dogs, and it shows. Thanks for that you two!!:)
